Welcome to Breastfeeding Moms on the Rise
This blog is joyful joint effort of local Lactation Consultants working in Nash and Edgecombe Counties. Our purpose is to provide information to guide you and your family on your breastfeeding journey. We will be posting articles concerning breastfeeding tips and concerns. Some serious and informative and some joyful and funny. Regardless, our intent is to encourage and inform. Some of the articles we have written and others are from other lactation consultants across the state. Come visit our blog also for information regarding local breastfeeding classes, support groups, and other activities of interest in the twin county area.
Here is some information about our Lactation Consultants:
Blair Creekmore, RN, IBCLC
I have been a International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) for ten years. I worked at Wakemed Cary Hospital for most of those ten years as postpartum, newborn nurse and lactation consultant. I am now a nurse and lactation consultant for Nurse Family Partnership serving Edgecombe and Halifax counties. I have been married for over 25 years to a wonderful husband, Wayne and have 3 children. I breastfed all three of my children. My first child was breastfed for 15 months. My second child had a difficult time latching on in the beginning but was able to breastfeed for over 14 months. I stopped breastfeeding my second child when I was 5 months pregnant with my third. My third child was born at 35 weeks but I was able to breastfeed him until he was 16 months old. I worked while breastfeeding all my kids. I enjoy going to the beach, boating, blogging and am a HGTV and Pinterest fan. I enjoys encouraging others to reach their dreams and goals. I am also active in my local church, Church on the Rise in Nashville.
Christine Morningstar, RN, IBCLC
I worked at Vidant Hospital in Greenville, NC, as a labor and delivery, and postpartum RN for 27 years. I worked as an IBCLC for 3 years while Vidant Hospital obtained their Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative status. I then worked for an insurance company as Lactation Consultant answering questions of new mothers. I am now retired as a RN, but am continuing to provide lactation support as an IBCLC for the Nash/Edgecombe area. With support and encouragement from my coworkers at Vidant Hospital, I started a new endeavor as facilitator of The Lactation Club of Nash and Edgecombe Counties. The Lactation Club meets twice a month for breastfeeding education and support and can be followed on Facebook. I am also enjoying my free time with my five wonderful grandchildren.
